ViandPro downdraft extractors provide powerful kitchen extraction without a conventional overhead cooker hood. The 90cm Viento rises from the worktop when cooking and retracts neatly afterwards, combining up to 696 m³/h airflow with black glass, touch controls and distinctive edge lighting. It can be installed for either ducted or recirculating extraction.
Downdraft Extractors for Discreet Worktop Extraction
A downdraft extractor provides an alternative to a conventional cooker hood positioned above the hob. Instead, the extraction unit is installed within the worktop and rises when required, positioning the intake close to the cooking area. When cooking is finished, it retracts back into the worktop to leave the space above the hob completely open.
This makes downdraft extraction particularly suited to kitchen islands, peninsulas and contemporary layouts where maintaining clear sightlines is important. The ViandPro Viento is a 90cm downdraft cooker hood with a slim rising glass panel, black glass finish and integrated edge lighting.
Extraction close to the cooking area
Unlike an overhead extractor, a downdraft hood captures cooking vapours from worktop level. The Viento provides airflow from 322.2 m³/h up to 696 m³/h, with a boost setting available when more intensive extraction is required.
Because the extractor is positioned close to the hob, careful planning of the cooking area and installation is important. The hob position, worktop depth, cabinetry and available space below the worktop all need to be considered before ordering.
A cleaner view across the kitchen
One of the main reasons to choose a downdraft extractor is the absence of a permanent hood above the cooking area. This can be particularly useful on an island where a suspended extractor might interrupt views across an open-plan kitchen.
The Viento's slim glass panel rises only when extraction is needed. Colour-changing edge lighting provides additional illumination and gives the raised extractor a distinctive appearance, while touch controls are integrated into the unit for straightforward operation.
Ducted or recirculating installation
The Viento can be configured for either external extraction or recirculation. With a ducted installation, extracted air is carried outside through suitable ducting. The available route should be considered early, particularly because ducting may need to run through the kitchen units, floor void or plinth area.
Where external ducting is not practical, the extractor can operate in recirculation mode. A CF8 charcoal filter is supplied with the Viento, allowing filtered air to be returned to the kitchen. Removable aluminium grease filters can also be taken out for routine cleaning.
Is a downdraft extractor right for your kitchen?
Downdraft extraction is particularly useful where keeping the space above an island or peninsula clear is a priority. However, the mechanism and airflow path require space beneath the worktop, so cabinetry design needs to accommodate the extractor before installation begins.
Check the 90cm installation width against your hob and worktop.
Allow sufficient space below the worktop for the downdraft mechanism.
Plan the duct route or recirculation arrangement before fitting cabinetry.
Check how the installation affects drawer and cupboard space beneath the worktop.
Allow access to grease and carbon filters for routine maintenance.
